Late last night I watched the movie Into the Wild, based off of the book of the same name by Jon Krakauer. I watched it, even though I knew how it would end, which I won't go into here just in case you haven't seen it.
I started thinking about the concept of being alone, I mean really alone...
There are many times when we are alone, in our lives but even at those times, we are still connected to the world in so many ways, whether it be through the media, technology, what have you. The majority of people in this world are never actually disconnected, not fully anyway, never quiet enough to really listen...
I would never want to live out in the Alaskan wilderness, especially not by myself. At times I'm afraid to be at home alone late at night. But what I wouldn't give to experience disconnection from everything in this world except nature and God. To experience total silence and peace long enough to really get it... To walk away from it all for a time... from all worldly possessions and conveniences... from the chaos that modern society has created, and truly experience the full meaning of the scripture "Be still and know that I am God". Man, what a life change that would be!
There's another man whose story I've been following for quite some time now, you can read about his experience on his blog named WhiteCrow Walking. Here's an excerpt from his site:
"My solo walk across America began in Maine. I walked for nearly 3 years carrying a backpack and facing countless dangers, as well as met wonderful people I could have never made it without. From bullets to bears I moved through mountains of snow and across burning desert country. The end result will be a book, and the fruition of a childhood dream. This is a blog from the field with rough stories about my steps along the way." ~Jesse WhiteCrow

How about you? If you had the chance, would you ever just walk away from everything and travel the way these men, and countless other men and women have done? Or maybe you've actually done it, if so, I would love to hear of your travels and how they changed your life.

Me either. When we went camping I woke up in the middle of the night needing to use the restroom REALLY bad but wouldn't get up and walk the 200 feet to the bathroom because it was so dark and I was afraid there were bears! LOL So I lay there and suffered in silence until hubby woke up and could go with me...
