Wow, it's hard to believe that 23 years ago I was a hospital in south Texas giving birth to my beautiful daughter. So many years ago but it feels like yesterday, guess it's that way for all mothers...
All of these years you have been the light of my life, the most true and good thing to happen in my world.
As a single mom for the first 9 years, we went through some pretty tough times together, but at the end of the day all I had to do was look into your beautiful face and know that it was all worth it and that we would always be okay, there was no other way to be...
I've seen you grow from an unsure and shy little girl into a strong, independent, caring young woman. And while you are a woman of few words, I have always admired the way you handle life, and all that it has handed you, with patience and grace. You have always had the ability to think before you speak or act, a trait that I'm afraid I don't even possess!
You took on the responsibility of motherhood at such a young age, both to Joshua and then to John. Struggled with a sick baby in the hospital for the first month of his life, with no complaints. You just did what you had to do and that was that. Most definitely a sign of the woman you would grow into.
You have loved those little boys so deeply and unconditionally and I love watching you take care of them day in and day out, still never complaining when you're tired or sick, or about how much you wish you could just have a break from it all.
And now that you're in school, your life is headed in such a good direction and I am so proud of you, passing your first final! but then again, was there ever a doubt that you would?
I look forward to seeing what life has in store for you, knowing that you will continue to stay true to yourself, just as you always have. With character and good moral convictions.....
Hold your head up high and love yourself as we all love you. You deserve all the happiness that life has to offer, and so much more.
Happy Birthday Nicole, I hope this year was the best ever!
I love you

What a great birthday tribute - happy birthday to your daughter!
A mother's love is so touching. The part of your post about starting out life just the two of you really got my heart, which I'll post about some time. I haven't lived that scenario, but I have a tender spot for moms on their own. Anyway, I think moms deserve just a big a "Happy Birthday" as the kid. After all, we did all the work that day!
Happy Birthday, Nicole!
What a wonderful tribute to your daughter.
Beautiful, Tiff! I hope Nicole has a wonderful birthday. When we first "met", our girls were young teens... you have done so much growing yourself, my friend... you are always an inspiration.
