focus

I’ve noticed lately that I’ve been feeling increasingly out of sorts, and when I feel out of sorts I start to get anxious and irritable. Does this happen to anyone else?
My house is a mess, my eating and weight are out of control, things feel unorganized and chaotic.
When things get this way I know exactly what it is that I’m not doing and that would be focusing.
First and foremost, every single day, no matter how busy things are or what is going on, my focus needs to be on my relationship with God. Without this, everything else starts to fall apart.
Secondly, there’s focus on my relationships with my family and home. I have a habit of spending too much time on other trivial things and getting away from what’s important, and slowly but surely my relationships with family will start to suffer, leaving us all feeling disconnected from each other. And when we feel disconnected from each other, tension and strife will ensue, rest assured.
And then of course, when there is tension at home everything else seems to fall apart as well. So much energy is spent on feeling anxious and being stuck in “fight or flight” mode that there’s not enough left over to take care of ourselves. Eating fast food becomes the norm because I’m too tired to plan meals or cook, and then soon after that my weight skyrockets and health plummets.
It’s all a vicious cycle that I’ve been round and round with my entire life. Right when all seems right with the world, I get too big for my britches and start to think that I can do all things on my own, without the help of anyone, including God. And it never fails, that is exactly the moment that things begin to fall apart. You would think I would learn, wouldn’t you?
I don’t know about anyone else but being held accountable always seems to help me keep things on track with most things, so I’m making a few goals and am going to start posting my daily progress at the end of my blog posts. I’m just starting out with a few because I know myself and won’t keep up with it if it’s more than that! The ones that I’ve chosen are:
1. Twenty minutes of devotion and prayer, first thing in the morning before anything else.
2. At least 30 minutes of physical movement each and every day, whether it be walking or playing the Wii! As long as I’m up off of my duff!
3. Fast food only ONCE a week for the next 30 days, no exceptions, period!
4. No complaining about work, whether it’s at work or at home.
5. Spend one hour each day doing something for someone else, whether it be crafting gifts, writing letters, etc…

Well, that’s it! I’ll be coming back here every day, starting tomorrow, to write down my progress. I won’t be too hard on myself if I don’t follow things to a tee, but am going to try my hardest!

That is exactly the way I have been feeling lately. Exactly!

I'll join you in being accountable. (Do you mind?) It is such a great idea!

No, I would love for you to join me!!! Hey, let's start an accountable revolution! hehe
Glad to know I'm not the only one feeling this way but it sucks for everyone else who is...
The sad thing about it is that it happens over and over and over again.... GEES! lol

exactly... been feeling that way too, I came to tell you I will join you in your quest and see the first commenter is doing the same, like you said, an accountability revolution! OK, I'm going to go start now, it's a great day for a walk, I'm off to lace up the shoes.

Wow Tiffany! These are wonderful goals. I'll pray for perseverance for you. I'd love to join in, but #2 might be a problem for me. God bless you sister!

We all need someone to be accountable to. it's so important. Your goals look a lot like mine.

I'm personally going to beat you up if you're hard on yourself!!!

Realizing you are having trouble is the first step to getting it together. #one is very important and glad it was at the top of the list.
You are so right in everything you said. Know you are not alone! There are probably a million of us out here in the same shape. Maybe we are all wanting to hybernate.

{{{Tiff}}} I SO know what you are going through. I was in that same place the past couple of weeks. In my case, I call it "emotional bankruptcy". It's like I feel like I've given everything I have to other people and I can't seem to focus and find the energy to focus on myself. That's when chaos enters my life and my family.

In my case, the only thing that generally snaps me out of it is CHANGE. Positive change.

This month, I tore apart a room and made it MY room... designed for nobody else except for meeeeeeeee :) and I swear to you, it's become (like Pooh says) my "thinking spot". A place where I can just sit... breathe in and out... and remember life's blessings and moments.

I also decided to schedule in an hour of day where I "allow" myself to do things with my kids ... guilt free no matter what the house looks like. No matter what classroom work needs to be done. No matter what errands are left on my task list. Seeing life through a happy child's eyes is the single best medicine in the world for me :-)

I feel this way as soon as the time changes something about going back an hour kills me, no sunlight makes it worse. It does help doing something for some one else I agree with you there!

Tiff...I just have to agree with many of the other comments that I see here. Life is just so darn busy...and we can fill every moment with "stuff"...but if we don't take care of ourselves, sooner or later we just run out of emotion and physical "fuel".
I think you have a great list...and I plan to adopt it myself.
Thank you for the wake up call...seems several of us are in the same place.
Hugs,
Deb

I actually just stopped over to check on your Giving Thanks list today. You have MUCH to be thankful for!! It's a great list! Keep up the great work!

However, the Lord knew I needed to read this post of yours today. I could have written it myself. I'm not kidding! Out of sorts, beaten down, exhausted, too many people needing too many things from me - the well is just plain empty!! I'll keep you in my prayers as He brings you to my mind.

Hey - the weekend's almost here! =)
